N. behandlade problem inom vetenskapsteori, logik och analytisk filosofi från en naturalistisk och empiristisk position. Han har bl.a. skrivit An Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method (1934, tillsammans med M.R. Cohen) och The Structure of Science (1961).
