Lessing [lɛʹsiŋ], Gotthold Ephraim, född 22 januari 1729, död 15 februari 1781, tysk författare. Lessing växte upp i ett lutherskt prästhem och studerade teologi och medicin i Leipzig. Här umgicks han också med teaterfolk och skrev komedin Der junge Gelehrte (’Den
